Parties to UNECE Air Pollution Convention approve new emission reduction commitments for main air pollutants by 2020
The Executive Body for the Convention on Long-range Transboundary Air Pollution (LRTAP) concluded its thirtieth session, held from 30 April to 4 May 2012 in Geneva, adopting historic amendments to the Convention’s 1999 Gothenburg Protocol to Abate Acidification, Eutrophication and Ground-level Ozone (Gothenburg Protocol).

New Data in E-PRTR (2010)
Reporting countries delivered data for 2010 by 31st March 2012. After a preliminary validation process, the data are now published on the E-PRTR website.

U.S. EPA Launches Public Participation Guide: Engage the public. Preserve the planet.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (U.S. EPA) launched the "Public Participation Guide", an international public participation toolkit. It is a resource for agencies and organizations to help develop, plan for, and implement programs that engage the public in environmental decision-making.

Communication on Improving the delivery of benefits from EU environment measures
On 7 March 2012 the European Commission adopted a Communication on implementing EU environment law which has the title "Improving the delivery of benefits from EU environment measures: building confidence through better knowledge and responsiveness" (COM(2012)95). The objective of the Communication is to intensify the dialogue with governments and all other stakeholders on how to achieve better implementation of EU law by moving towards a more systematic approach to collecting and sharing knowledge and by enhancing responsiveness to environmental problems at a local level, closer to the citizen. The Communication puts emphasis on the importance of reliable and accessible knowledge base that conveys information to professionals and public alike. It addresses concepts such as active dissemination of information and access to justice in environmental matters, that originate in the Aarhus Convention.
